Koklea is the new project of the band Oreka TX. In the same way that science interprets nature with its own language, Oreka TX makes a reading of its environment and shares it through the txalaparta.
This new work reflects the result of the quintet’s musical journey of the last few years, in which they delve into their own style using organic and natural instruments from a contemporary language.
The band was created by Harkaitz Mtz. from San Vicente and Igor Otxoa in 1997 and since then they have not stopped investigating and spreading the possibilities offered by the txalaparta, experimenting both with its musicality and with construction materials (from the original wood to stone, tiles, bamboo… even ice!), enjoying and making people enjoy this wonderful instrument.
Today, Oreka TX is made up of the ‘txalapartaris’ Harkaitz Martínez de San Vicente and Mikel Ugarte, together with Mixel Ducau, Iñigo Eguia and Juan Jose Ochandorena. They have presented their work throughout the five continents, conquering audiences and specialised critics, thanks to the showiness of the instrument and the energy of the band.
Besides researching, Oreka TX likes to mix with other artists, genres and projects. Proof of this is the amount and variety of collaborations they have made. Phil Cunningan, Ara Malikian, Manu Dibango, Aziza Brahim,
Motoko Hirayama, Silvia Iriondo, Carlos Nuñez, Rai National Synphony Orchestra and Hakon Kornstad are some of the great names with whom they have collaborated.
Besides musical fusion, they also enjoy experimenting and building shows with other artistic disciplines such as dance, circus, audiovisuals, rural sports or other elements that inspire them to create suggestive universes.
But above all the collaborations, prizes or awards, for Oreka TX the greatest pleasure is to share with the world their passion for the txalaparta and the universe of Basque culture.
