Mielotxin began as a result of the initiative of its vocalist and accordionist, Iñigo Aguerri in the summer of 2003 in his hometown of Tafalla in Navarra. The previous year, he had recorded a demo in Pontevedra with his Gallician friend and musician Pipo Alvariño with the aim of
bringing it into the public eye and also of bringing to life a new music project. This project would try to contribute a different and up-to-date approach to folk music to the music scene of Navarra and its surrounding areas which had been previously untouched by this style.
Throughout 2004, the group grew and started playing the local scene, receiving good reviews not only from the public but also from cultural programmes which could see in Mielotxin a fresh, modern alternative that was at the same time faithful to traditional music.
In 2.017, Mielotxin´s released his last album, its fouth CD, in MECCA Oinartzun’s studies, with the last songs. Some of these songs had been previously recorded by Alan Lomax in 1.953, here in Navarre. In this new CD, Mielotxin reappers in quintet with two new members, the drummer Salva Tarazona and the double bass player Xavi Folch. Thereby Mielotxin begins a new stage, with an original show accompanied by Laurin dancers. They want to show that folk music and modernity can be good friends, when the musical quality, the coolness and originality go on together.
